Hofstra Wins!
On Friday, April 19th, three Hofstra students, Evan Kreth, Antonio Collado, and Olivia Golebiewski, represented the university at the American Chemical Society’s Long Island Subsection 2024 Chemistry Challenge. With this being the first time that the event has been held in person since the Pandemic, ten teams from universities across Long Island participated.
The questions asked during the competition were created by the host university, St. John’s. Depending on how difficult the question was decided to be, participants had anywhere from thirty seconds to two minutes to find an answer. After half of the questions were completed, Hofstra had a clear lead among other competitors.
Ultimately, Hofstra won first place overall and first place among other four-year programs. For the last three years, Hofstra has won first place in the competition. Last year, Evan Kreth won first place individually while Hugh Cheung, a 2023 graduate, won second.
